good thoughts, J.R.

I'm experiencing some of this truth as I'm reading through the Bible with some others in 12 weeks. I did it this past summer too, and the phrase that was born out of that experience was "letting the text put my life in context." Similar to "desiring the Scripture to interpret me."

The story of John from Revelation reminds me of Jeremiah 15:16 where he says, "Thy words were found, and I did eat them and they were the joy and rejoicing of mine heart. . ." I love that His Word cuts deep and can hurt because His Word is TRUTH and the world and my own heart is deceitful. It's like last night when we read those verses in Hebrews 4 about the Word being alive and powerful. . . piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul & spirit. We're so good at fooling ourselves that we need God to keep us straight, don't you think? So even the pain is good because it's making me more like Him. And after the pain there's peace, because another area of struggle and conflict has been loved away by His Word.
