We start a new series this weekend at resonate for the month of December called 'What's In a Name?' We'll be looking at just three of the 211 names of God found in Scripture over the next three weeks.
In Jewish tradition, your name was your destiny, your essence, who you were to become. [That's why God changed the names of so many people - because when they had a life-altering interaction with the living God their destiny was changed...so it would only make sense that your name would change, too].
So when we study the names of God, we begin to undertand his identity more and more. I can think of no better topic to be dwelling on as we prepare room in our hearts for the coming of the Christ child this time of year.
But I need your help with something.
You know those names that you hear that you say, "I must have misheard that, because nobody would ever be named that by their parents"?
I want to collect these ridiculous names (yes, there really is such a person named Seymour Butts and there is a woman named Rainey Bowells - no joke).
Here's where I need your help: I need you to supply me with some of these funny, but true names. [NOTE: You can't simply say, 'I once heard from a friend who had a neighbor who had a boyfriend named..." It actually has to be cataloged. If you have an internet link or a resource to back it up, its even better. I am not looking for urban legends at this point, just true, factual names. Oh, and please keep it appropriate or I will edit the blog comments].
Thanks for your help and hope to see you this Sunday at resonate at 6 pm at Calvary Church.
