My seminary professor said something several weeks ago that I can't stop thinking about:
"Nothing has messed with my theology more than reading my Bible."

THAT is such a true statement. It's scary to think about where the rest of my theology has come from, and I can't unlearn it fast enough...

I’m reminded of a story of a man who had prepared for a test about his Bible knowledge. The instructor took a nail and drove it thru the man’s Bible starting in Genesis. The question was what word did the nail go through on each page. The man gave very good answers but then he was questioned as to his knowledge about his relationship with the author of the Bible.
Whether true or not it challenges me about who Jesus is to me and am I finding Him in a personal way in my readings and study.
In the gospel of John chapter 5:39, 40 Jesus says: “You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!
And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.”
A.W. Tozer said, “What good is theology without experience?”
John 17:3 offers us life's purpose by saying that, “Eternal life is to know (experientially) the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.”
May the Spirit of the Lord draw us to Him.

Ok. Try to put on elephant into a shoebox... Can you?
Multiply it with infinite, and try to describe it with words...
Thats Theology... Study of GOD... I believe that All the Theology we can read in all the books are still only very poor descriptions and limitations of an infinite GOD...
Still, I am a third year student of Theology... :)

JR, Great Post. A guy in a discipleship group I lead stated he was a 5-point Calvinist and laid down some heavy, well-thought-out theology in an answer to a question. He then indicated he was trying to get past it in dealing with people wrt evangelism, but was having a hard time. After stating how much I love the Bible because it has changed my life, but don't know much about theology. My reply shocked me, "Grace helps me deal with people who don't see it that way." I really don't know where that came from, but think I know Who it came from. (2 Tim 2:1, Phil 3:all, Eph 5:15, 2 Pet 1:4-8, Col 3:1-17, Ps 130 ...)
